The mission of the GEAR UP project is to significantly increase the number of students prepared to enter and succeed in post secondary education. The UTRGV GEAR UP COLLEGE in ACTion! Project is rooted on introducing research-based programs and practices that will help students be successful in middle, high school, and transition into post-secondary institutions. Through partnerships involving universities, colleges, schools, and community partners, students will be supported as they engage in rigorous academic curriculum in preparation for post-secondary education and leadership development. GEAR UP is committed into increasing college enrollment rates among low-income youth by developing and offering comprehensive services such as STEM activities, college/career clubs, leadership camps, mentoring, counseling, outreach, awareness, and other supportive services for participating students and their parents.

CAREER DAY 2018
NATIONAL GEAR UP WEEK 2018
Students had a fun filled week celebrating National Gear Up Week from September 24-28, 2018. It started off with a "Walk for the Future" where students paraded through the hallways displaying the college of their choice and careers they hope to achieve. Throughout the week, there were different themes such as: "Gear Up for the Future", "Orange Day", "College Day" and ending it off with "Dress for Success".
